How many people, actually, truly, know us? In my case, not many.
Well.
Maybe more than I think. I mean, I spatter my innermost thoughts all over these internet pages on a daily basis. You all know WAY more about me than I do about you.
Come to think of it. This is a bit of a self-help-public-service-announcement-deal. After you’ve read the series of train wrecks which occur on a daily basis inside my head…. you can lean back and say… “Well hey. I’m not so bad after all.”
Nonetheless. Here I am. But honestly, not that many people know who I am. I am a worrier at heart. And I get sad about things. Sometimes I get mad. And it seems that the older I get, the more introverted I become.
I’m thin-skinned in every way. I go on the defensive pretty quickly. And I get my feelings hurt easily. When people say “Don’t take this personally.” Well…. guess what? I take it all personally.
When the world turns on its side, I get achy inside. Nerve gas in Syria. Bombs on subways in Russia. North Korea launching missiles into the Sea of Japan. Troubles abound at every corner. And we have to rely on the President to do the right thing.
My stomach feels like it has been to the pretzel-factory.
Most of the time, when I feel “down” about something, I try to snap out of it. I work on becoming more self-aware. I try to cut myself a break…. not to be quite so hard on me. Probably the most important thing…. is remembering and being thankful for the incredible blessings and possibilities in my life. They are infinite.
And that’s the thing. For every “bad” thing that is happening in the world, there is a multitude of “amazing” around every corner. There is beauty, and good, and light.
Instead of setting our focus on the negative, we should look for the things which are gleaming and virtuous and right. To go where the stars shine the brightest.
So now you know one more thing about me. I might get down every now and again. But if the stars stay in the sky… I’ll keep looking up.
