Things to do in Dover

Throughout our lives, we may have been told by someone, that our actions will not likely have a measurable impact on the world. I hear this a lot around voting time. People say that one vote will not matter. Or with recycling. This one can isn’t going to make a bit of difference in the bigger scheme of our pollution problem.

There are hundreds of other examples.

This mindset, these thoughts, can be a little depressing really. I mean, what is our human life, if we are not somehow making a difference?

But in the middle of all that, I think, we all find our own ways. There are times, when we realize, (or maybe just convince ourselves) that our life line is making a difference. Somehow. Some way. Even if in small measures.

And today, I’m here to help all of us. With good information that our lives most certainly need. Things we can’t live without knowing. Maybe. Sort of.

All of us move about from time to time, and place to place. And here are some good and important items of note. To help you on your way.

If you go to Mobile, Alabama, you may not use Silly String. Not one little bit. Or Confetti. Both are banned. So, celebrate some other way if the notion hits you. While I am speaking of Alabama, make sure you do not engage in any bear wrestling either. Remember that you may not wrestle bears. Don’t train for it, do not engage. Don’t even buy tickets to watch. If you get caught, I’ll be mailing you a harmonica to play while you are in some wretched Alabama jail cell, eating bread crusts and sipping water.

Okay skiers. Let’s take it out to Colorado. Aspen specifically. Do not throw a snowball. Now, I think you are allowed to make those snowballs. Just like our big, hairy, toothy guy, the Abominable. But. Don’t heave. It is considered a “missile” out there. Punishable by law. And it is my understanding, that it is strictly enforced. I guess they have Snowball / Missile Police. By the way, in case you might be considering. Flaming arrows, nope. Catapults, nope.

Closer to home for me. Indiana. I’m just a dozen or so miles from the border. But here is one for all of us. There is NO shooting fish in a barrel. Actually, you are not allowed to shoot a fish anywhere. Not even on the Indiana Times Square. You can’t kill one with your bare hands either. Personally, I think “fishing” is highly overrated. So if you are in Indiana, I would leave this to the professional hit men.

Now for the Granddaddy of them all. Ohio. Home Sweet Home. Here in Ohio, we can do as we damn well please on Sundays. Apparently. No one can be arrested on Sundays. Or on the Fourth of July. Oooorrrrr during a session of the State Congress.

I’m not jerking you. It is in The Ohio Revised Code. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2331.12

So, to sum it all up: Don’t listen to the doubters. I think we truly can make a difference in this world. Our every action counts. I’ve said, so many times before, that I think we are all connected. Each life touching the next. And so it goes.

By the way, if anyone wants to go out and do some things that will make a difference, let’s start meeting on Sundays. In the alley behind Al’s Garage. Noon. Sharp. Wear a mask.
