“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”
Galileo said that. Somewhere around the year 1620.
Not that he needs my endorsement, but I sure do think he was right.
I’ve written about him 7,938 times here at Kid Wednesday. Probably. I won’t do it again. Beating the lifeless horse, and all. But. Today is his birthday. So. Happy Big Birthday Gal. Thanks for all you gave this good world.
Today is also my parents Anniversary. The were married in 1947. They are gone now. But I am reminded of them.
That’s how time is. It loops around.
The whole motion of it is a series of repetitions. Loops. That’s why time travel is possible. We are just too thick at this point to figure it out.
All of space, going round and round. The whole bunch of it, spinning.
Speaking of spinning. Here is one that has been bothering me for quite some time. Spinning Classes. They are so very trendy right now. “Hey, Jenny, where you headed?” “Oh, I’m going to Spinning Class. Our instructor is a monster.”
First of all. They should not be aloud to be called Spinning Classes. Technically, I suppose the wheel spins. But the person does not. The wheel only spins because peddling is applied. And the bike is quite stationary. For the longest time, people have been riding stationary bikes. And now all of a sudden, it is spinning. With devils for instructors, or worse. It has gone the way of the glitz.
As you may have gathered, I am not the bandwagon-trendy sort.
Which brings me to “Killer Workouts.” These too, seem to be popular with those who dabble in the fitness trends. Those people never just exercise. No. They have to have Killer Workouts. Which sounds counter productive to me. The point of exercise is to extend one’s life. Not to shorten it. I think the entire “Killer” thing could simply be left from the description.
A Killer Workout. More apropos would be a drive to the Dunkin’ Donut. For a dozen Bearclaws, or Bavarian Creme’s. That’s more likely to kill you. But way more fun.
Albeit. Who am I to judge? Walking is my big exercise these days. An occasional run when no one is watching. Breathing in, breathing out. Mostly, I think, the world is moving and we should move with it. Waving and smiling, occasionally, along the way. We are all just here together, in whichever direction we go.
And, as Galileo so aptly put it:
“Nonetheless, it moves.”
