You could see it, in any number of ways. I fastened my eyes on the shiny object. Or maybe…. the blame had not been fastened to any suspect in the case.
But most of the time… when I think of fasten… I think of “to join”… or “to fix, or hold in place.”
And when we fasten, we need fasteners.
That which joins togethers. They come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. There are, buttons and clasps. Zippers, ties, buckles, and snaps. What about good old velcro? And. Staples.
And then there are the trusty combos…like…. the hook & eye, or the nut and bolt. I like a good fastener. But I am especially keen on the nut and bolt. I like the way they work, I’ll tell you.
The sound of them is….. almost … musical.
I have the nut, and I have the bolt.
If I had a lightbulb, I’d have a volt.
But they spin together just like that.
The same as when my head wears a hat.
Nut and bolt. An unlikely pair.
They’ll put it together without a care.
…. …. .
They sort of sound like a Superhero, and a Sidekick. Maybe.
“Nut and Bolt Save Metropolis. Again.”
But one thing is for sure. They don’t look like one another. They are completely different shapes, and forms. If you didn’t know better, you would like they were not related. At all.
But. When they are joined together, in just the right way…. with their common thread matched up in concert…. they are virtually unbreakable. They are strong. They join things, which otherwise could not be held together.
It is kind of beautiful. Really.
Which brings me to this. Maybe we humans should be a little more Nut and Boltish.
There are so many of us running around on this planet. And we all look so different on the outside.
But inside, we have a common thread. There are similarities between us. Between each and every one of us. We have at the very least… one thing in common.
Let us come together, and see how strong we can be. Yes, we could be joining all sorts of things. In a good way. We could fix the wrongs… that need to go right.
Sometimes glue just won’t do the job. So when the world seems like it is coming unglued, we can be the nuts and bolts.
I guess I’m a little bit on the Nut side.
But I know a whole bunch of good bolts.
