Zip.

Nothing.

It is hard to define nothing.  Webster tries.  And sort of gets it, I suppose.

Per Noah.

nothing |ˈnəTHiNG|
pronoun
not anything; no single thing
• something of no importance or concern
• (in calculations) no amount; zero.

Zip. Zero.  Zilch. Nada. Didly Squat.

But the “nothing” can be a lot of things.

“Hey… What are you doing?”
“Oh… nothing.”

“Honey, is something wrong?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.”

I’m telling you what.  Just those two examples sure can pack a punch.  There is a lot going on when you hear “nothing.”

Speaking of hearing nothing.  It is virtually impossible.  There are a some sound rooms which have been built in the world which will allow you to hear nothing.  They’ve conducted psychological experiments on this phenom.  But most of the time, in every day life, we are surely hearing something.  Whether we know it or not.

And hear we do.  There have been songs written about nothing.  Sinead O’Conner sang “Nothing compares to you.”  And in the Sound of Music… they sang… “Nothing comes from nothing.  Nothing ever could….”

Zero minus zero equals zero.  Same way if you add it up.  Zero.

There is a lot to think about when you have nothing on your mind.
It might be all of nothing.  Or perhaps…. there is a great big fuss about a whole lot of nothing.

As you can see, I’ve come to all these revelations in nothing flat.
And you might be saying… at this point… Geez Polly.  Thanks for nothing.

You would be quite astute.
Tonight, I had absolutely nothing to write about.  And…. So I did.
