Wonder Crumby

So, I went on a tour of a bread factory last week. Yeah. I thought the day would be filled with Wonder. As it went, it turned out to be a crummy day.

Okay. But seriously folks.

That’s the way it goes sometimes. We may have expectations about how something will happen, and then. And then. Things don’t quite follow those beautifully pre-mandated expectations. What is outside of ourselves, is pretty much, out of our control.

We can steer our thoughts, our reactions, our attitudes. Our minds. But the rest is up to the powers that be. Those powers that be swirling around our heads. Duck.

Speaking of ducks.

Last summer, we got some rabbits here at the farm. It was a hare-raising experience.

Okay. But seriously folks.

That’s the way it goes sometimes. We learn things as we go. We may have a set of expectations which get crushed by some huge big bolder which drops out of the sky, unexpectedly, and almost falls on our left big toe. But instead, it annihilates our expectations. So, we do a little shimmy, and a little shake. We move this way and that. And before we know it, we’ve learned something new. Perhaps, not by choice, but by demand. Either way, it might turn out to be a really good thing.

You know, a guy named Henry Ward Beecher once said, “The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.”

For some reason, this made me think of Fudgesicles.

When I was little, and something would go terrible wrong, my brothers or sisters would say “Ahhhhhhh Fudgesicles!”

This did not compute to me. As I saw it, Fudgesicles didn’t seem so bad. In fact, I absolutely loved Fudgesicles. And when I was a kid, I am pretty sure on those few occasions when I actually was allowed to eat one, it brought me incredible amounts of joy. It appears, without knowing it, that I was extracting happiness from a common thing.

So even if the way of the day is not meeting our predeterminations, our anticipations. Maybe, today, we can all find a little thing, which will make us, in one moment, so very happy.
