Where bellybuttons go when eggs are involved. Not a Bible Story.

There are certain things in life, that I think we should all know. Those little important bits — that when you hear them — announce to us all, that the world is as big as that big, blue, yonder.

I was reminded this morning, that the old paintings of Adam and Eve shouldn’t show any belly buttons. Not on either one of them. But they always do. Seems like a gaping hole in the story when you think about it. But here’s another thing, semi-related. Truly, in nature, animals that lay eggs don’t have belly buttons. I’ve looked at belly of a goose. And a chicken. It is true.

The animals. I am not sure where this is, but there are some species of burrowing spiders keep teeny tiny frogs in their burrows. Big spider. Tiny Frog. The spiders do this to keep the nest free of bugs that are too teeny, tiny small for the big spider to eat. Those bitty bugs try to eat the spider’s eggs. So the little frog is there to do the job. Like some kind of a watchdog for the spider.

I’ve also read some things about cows. I am hoping all of it is true. It is said that cows have “best friends” and that those cows get stressed when they are separated. The same source also reported that cows get excited when they solve puzzles. Now, here is the thing. I’ve been in Preble County for 30 years. I have yet to see two cows, Besties, sitting at a table in some field, having iced coffees, working a jigsaw puzzle. But I sure do keep hoping.

Most elephants weigh less than a blue whale’s tongue. I would not want to be the person doing the weighing, in either case. Say, Ahhhhhh.

Since we are talking about animals, there is one more thing. If you shave the fur off a tiger, it has striped skin underneath. Again, I would not want to be the person finding out this fact. And, I wonder if the same goes for leopards and spots, and pandas, and their funky black/white schematics.

Kangaroos can’t walk backwards. I’m not sure what they do if there is ever cause to back up. I guess, they drop and roll. I’d sort of like to see that, I think.

There are a lot of great facts about bees, as they are truly amazing animals. But I had never heard this one before today. When a bee is chosen to be the new queen, they are given a special type of honey. And that honey completely changes their bodies. Like some kind of magical evolution transformation.

Two thing here. I want to know the voting process for the Queen. Is it like a bunch of Princesses are up for the running and they have a little Miss Hive Contest, with the talent competition, and such? The other thing. I’d like to get my hands on a little bit of that honey. I just want to score one tablespoon or so, just to see what might happen. Who knows. I might finally turn into the Superhero I hoped I’d bee all my life.

And. I know I’ve said this one before. But it is the most beautiful thing ever. I know they hold hands, but even better. Otters have hidden pockets in their skin, for their favorite rocks.

Some days, life seems just like magic. Some day, I’m going to meet an Otter, and we are going to go rock hunting. I do believe in some days.
