The Matrix. Sort of.

I am slow reader.  But. I have a great memory.

So I know that I’ve told you I am a slow reader… many times before this.   I don’t know if the two things are connected, or not.

No matter.  I love to read.  I started a new book this week about Thomas Jefferson and Meriwether Lewis.  So far, so good.

I like to read all sorts of things.  Once of those things are science articles.   Today, I read an interesting paper which suggested we could be living in a “Simulated Reality.”   When I saw the title of the article, I almost passed it over.   But, something brought me back to it.

And I read.

It proposed some thought provoking things.  Which sort to made sense.

It starts out by suggesting that a group of very reputable physicists are now saying that reality is not “real”.  They think, perhaps,  there is a very good probability that we are living inside a sophisticated computer simulation.

This notion even has a name.  It is called the Simulated Universe Theory.  And… get this.  It isn’t yet widely accepted.   I think it sounds a little bit wonky on the surface.

However.  Without over simplifying this.  Most quantum physicists agree that that the nature of reality operates according to mathematics.   So therefore…   it comes down to this:  The entire universe can be summed up or explained digitally.

I know this is getting boring, but that digital “stuff” we “live in”  is really the electrical signals in your brain.  And that brain activity is interpreting that data into what you call reality.   This means that nothing exists without consciousness.

So…. “déjà vu, ghosts and other paranormal activity could be glitches in the program, psychic ability and intuition could simply be the result of accessing information within the program.”  And on an on it goes.

Now, I am in no way sold on this virtual reality proposal.

I will say… that parts of it seem like they could have merit.  Let’s put 10 people in a room and show them the same event.  Then,  when those 10 people walk out of the room, so will 10 different versions of that event.

And back to the deja’ vu.  Psychic readings.  Ghost sitings.  Well, now.  Those are things that make you go Hmmmmmm.

My point to all of this is:  I am not smart enough to say it is wrong, or right.  The same goes with Catholicism, Buddhism, Islamism, or Fairy Godmotherism.  It is a big universe.   I think we would be short-sighted if we discounted any possibility.

Sure, we have opinions on things.  And beliefs that we hold true.  Some of us have tremendous faith in things.  But perhaps we should be a little more tolerant when someone’s opinion, or belief, is divergent from our own.   Be it a religious view,  a spiritual view, a political view, or a love of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Perhaps we are absolutely right about what we “know.”  But then again, how can we be so sure?  Can anyone?

One thing I think I know is this.  When I am good to people, I can feel the good energy.  And when I am bad to people, I can feel that as well.  I bet the energy of the universe picks up on this too.  I could be wrong about this… but I hope you will consider the possibility.  We make the world better when we are better.

Really.
