The big zap

I don’t have any huge ideas today, so I’ve decided to look at some headlines, and pick two randomly. And then I will write about them.

First ONE. I am sure you are aware of. Pruitt, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned Thursday. Yes, he wrote a nice little letter and handed it to Trump. It said, “I hate to go, but I must.” Not really. BUT. It ended his tenure which has been flooded with allegations of misconduct. And that led to repeated calls for his good riddance.

I won’t go political, I promise. Just the observations of his resignation. He has been accused of spending extravagantly on travel and security. He did things like ask aides to run personal errands, all the time. And, he had a way of keeping his own paw greased, by accepting favorable terms for things, like good deals on condo rentals, and such.

For anyone who hates protecting the environment, have no fear. The reports say the candidates for his replacement will have no greater concern for cleaning up the environment than Pruitt had. All the laws that are protecting wildlife, parks, clean air, and such, will continue to be abolished. So, wipe those tears, Anti-Planet-People. Destruction will be back on course soon. Pruitt may be out, but his work will continue.

Second ONE. Bugs fly to the light. But why? There are a few different theories, but the main one that most scientists lean toward is this. Bugs are wired to navigate by the light of the moon and the stars. Way, way back, when all bugs were just starting out, they came equipped with little GPS systems. Yes. And they were guided by the only light source at night. Moon. Stars. Well, they still do this.

However, artificial lights — manmade lights — throw this perception off. So the bugs use the most direct path to the light that is closest. It is kind of sad to watch really. Have you ever seen a bug just beat itself to death on a hot lightbulb?

I feel sorry for it. In its mind, it is saying, “I KNOW, in my heart of hearts, that this is the way. There is the light. I see it with my own 5,000 eyes. Fly to the light.” And it does. And it gets burnt. “Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.” It says. Then it starts all over again. Until finally, there it is. The dead bug. On your nightstand.

It is kind of reminiscent of people. People who believe falsely in something. They think they know it to be true. In their heart of hearts, they believe IT. They see the “false guiding light,” and they are certain THAT should be the way. The only way. They will tell you; THIS IS THE WAY. And then they fly into it. Again, and again, and again. And again. Bzzzz. Bzzzzd. Until finally, that thing that they thought they knew, has ended up destroying everything that goes that way. Including themselves.

Yep. I’ve seen it.
The obliteration. The demise. The irreparable damage.

So there you have it. Two random, unrelated headlines. Or. Are they?
