Solid. Gassy.

It was that exact moment, when the bubble broke the surface tension of the water. The all of it had reached 212 degrees Fahrenheit. And the first little bead, worked its way from the bottom of the pot, and thrust itself upward, exploding into its gaseous state. Kapow. Skyward.

Remarkable. Incredible. Amazing.

The boiling of water.

On the way downward, the water is not nearly as active, but every bit as interesting. It slowly slows. It creeps. It crawls. It stands still and shivers. And finally, it moves so very little, that all its friends hover around. Clinging. They take their chilly stand too. And ICE. At 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is magic, but of course, the water must meet the requirements, either way.

Requirements. They are everywhere.

In these parts, it seems that now is a good time for that water to take up its frosty suitcase. A stand in solidarity.

You see. It is cold.

Yesterday, here in Ohio, we had a Wind Chill Advisory. A Wind Chill Advisory is issued by the National Weather Service of the United States. And. Wouldn’t you know? This happens when the wind chill is low enough that it poses a threat to human health. If our lives might need protection from such things as hypothermia and frostbite.

Now, the exact definition varies from state to state. Here is how it goes. Those certain areas which are prone to colder temperatures will often require the wind chill to be lower before issuing an advisory.

This makes no sense to me. We are all…. for the most part…. humans at 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. I am not sure why a Minnesota Human would only be worried about hypothermia at a -25 degrees, and a Florida Human would need to be concerned at 5 degrees. Why the variation in requirements from state to state? Flip flops vs. Uggs? Perhaps?

No. This is no good. There needs to be a standard. A requirement. Just as water freezes, so should us humans go. Cold is cold, no matter where you are. Horribly cold is the same way too. There needs to be a benchmark.

I bet a man made up this system of fluctuation. All willy-nilly.

A Snow Man in a Snow Office somewhere.

My new campaign? Save the Wisconsinites. Save the North Dakotans. Save the New Hampshirites. Hell, at this point, save the Ohioans.

So.

If you see an Earmuff in a Snowbank, do something.
