Small town flush

This world is full of things to behold. People. Places. Moments in time.

Let’s take one of those moments to consider the person who invented the Snooze Button. That really took some thought, work, and effort. But it was a little double-edged, don’t you think? I mean, THAT person was seriously motivated to be lazy in the future. A go-getter-procrastinator, I think. No matter, he or she was some sort of enigma. Wondrous.

Here is another thing of splendor. Every state has a smallest town. I hadn’t given this much consideration before today. But I saw an article listing all 50.
Now, I am an Introverted-Homebody. Pathetically. But this might be a good vacation list for me. I imagine the crowds are very small. And so little to see! First stop: Rendville, Ohio, population 36. Maybe then to New Amsterdam, Indiana. 27. Or perhaps South Park View, Kentucky. 7. Yesssssiiirrrreeeee.

Miraculous also, is the insect world. They are often misunderstood, because they do not look very much like us humans. In fact, they appear a little alien at times. Most people have the first response of “Kill the Insect.” We have an entire industry devoted to this reaction. Most of the time, I just nod and say hello. However, on occasion, when certain kinds of bugs are in the house, I also go on the hunt. But then. When I kill a house-bug with a piece of tissue, I always flush it right down the toilet. I think I am afraid it might come back to get me in the middle of the night. While I sleep. With my eyes closed and my mouth open.

Our bodies are another thing of wonder. We breathe without conscious effort. Same with our hearts beating, and all sorts of other functions we never once considered. Can you imagine… “Okay, Pancreas. Regulate my blood sugar NOW.” And all the other million things that are firing, synapsing, pumping, excreting, and releasing. I am just thankful, in a big way, that our internal organs never get an itch. Wouldn’t that be a really big bummer?

Yes. People are amazing. In numerous ways. But sometimes, our creativity makes me so happy and amazed. I watched a video today of a very complicated Rube Goldberg Machine. You should have seen the thing go. It was meticulous, interesting, intricate, and of course, timed and weighted perfectly. Midway through the video, I thought… “Whoever put all that time and energy into this device might have too much time on their hands.” And then I thought, after watching the 4-minute video… “Oh wait. Maybe I have too much time on my hands.”

Which I really don’t. I’m just easily distracted every now and again. By things of wonder. Like time itself. Hey. I wonder if someone already has the capability to freeze time and it has happened to us many times. And we just don’t know it. What a world. What a world.

There is so much in each day, just waiting for us. To discover. To know. To learn. To be a part of. Those are the things we should be thankful for, and take joy in. Because they exist. And because we can.
