Slow. Steady.

“Plodding wins the race.” — Aesop

One of the people I admire most in this world was a plodder. My Dad. He was a lot of things, actually. He died at the age of 91, and it felt like the world had lost this great man, much, much, too early. I don’t say these things just because he was my father. He truly was a remarkable human being.

Yes, he was a teacher, a giver, a lover of life. He was true, and kind. Most of all he was a Patron of Peace. He had an amazing faith in God, but you would never hear him stand on a pulpit and tell you about it. No. He led by example. By his everyday actions. The little things, time and time again.

And. He plodded. So much though, that sometimes his voice and opinions would never be heard in a discussion. He was methodical in action and thought. A genius IQ. There was nothing explosive or abrupt about him. He was incremental. He was calm. Plodder. I am one of the luckiest, most fortunate people in the world, to have had him as my Dad.

The Aesop quote, made me think of him. Obviously.

It also made me think of all of us. And our part in this world. Because right now, the world seems very big to me. And fast. Sometimes it seems to be completely spinning out of control. Kind of like in the Nike commercial, where the news caster announces that the world is turning in the wrong direction and it is about to come clear off its axis.

That is the reality of us, right now. It seems.

But here is what I think. We all need to join our efforts, and plod. (Like the runners in the commercial, but we will not run, we will go calmly, incrementally.)

And maybe, here is what we do. We do the little thing. The good thing. The right thing. We lead by example, and with kindness. We move together on this one. We plod. All in the same direction.

There is a great, big, innovative idea that can change the world. Goodness and Love. And we can take one little tiny step toward this incredible movement, a hundred times throughout our days. It will extend outward. It will spread. One small measure at a time.

We plod. We make a difference. For the good.

I think we are going to ace this. For sure.
