Right here. And there.

Today, made me think about how lucky I am.  To be right here, in Preble County, Ohio.   With so many good people in my life.  With so many wonderful life experiences on any given day.

When we were in Europe, we saw some incredible sights.  Architecture, art, cemeteries, cathedrals, and vineyards.  Some of them were several centuries  old.  And more.

There was glorious food, and very fine people. So many terrific events, and occurrences.   Well… …except for yucky, stuffy,  dirty, uptight, crabby Paris.

But it feels oh-so-good to be home.  Here at home, there are equally incredible sights and experiences.   There are wonders, both great and small.  The very old, and the very new.    And all I have to do… is to simply notice.

It is a little like….. when you are growing up, and you enjoy your Mom’s potato salad.  But your friend, Stanley Klingermeyer, is having his 8th birthday party at his house. It is a cookout, and everything.  So you go with great expectations.  But when it comes time to have the birthday lunch with cheeseburgers and all the fixings…. you whop on a big heap of homemade potato salad on your Chinet Paper Plate.  You take that first bite… and suddenly…. you discover….. that potato salad is SO different from your Mom’s.  It isn’t necessarily bad… it just is NOT as incredible yummy as what you get a home.

And that is how I feel tonight. Our travels were delightful. No doubt.   But here at home… is exactly THAT.  It’s HOME.

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open. — Jawaharlal Nehru

The more often we see the things around us – even the beautiful and wonderful things – the more they become invisible to us. That is why we often take for granted the beauty of this world: the flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds – even those we love. Because we see things so often, we see them less and less. — Joseph B. Wirthlin
