Radical. Groovy. Far Out.

Snarky.  I miss the word… Snarky.  But as with any phrase or popular slang-hash in the English Language… they all can be….  …LIKE …. “that was SO seven seconds ago.”

I’m talking 24/7.

Okay, enough of that.  But the phrases DO come… and those same phrases DO go.  Yet… Words are really something, I’ll tell you.  They can be beautiful, interesting, funny, or quite powerful. Words can be many things, all on their very own… or entangled with a myriad of other words.

But.  Just for fun…  Here are a few that are new to the 21st Century… or thereabouts.
“Google It” / “Terrorist Threat” / “Text Me” / “LOL” / “Tweet” / “Streaming” / “Social Networking” /  “Like Us on FaceBook” / and on and on and on.
We hadn’t heard of these things when I was growing up.  “Tweet” was the sound that birdies made.  And “streaming” was for rich kids.  The rest of us just went creeking.

There are quite a load of these newer phrases which I have never cared for.  Here’s a brief cross-section, just off the top of my head:
“Hashtag….. anything”
“That’s what I’m talking about.”
“Baby Bump”
“Whatever”
“It is what it is.”
“At then end of the day.”
“On the same page.”

If we cleared those from the English language, it would not bother me one bit.

On the flip side… there are some good ones.  Classics.

Blithering Idiot.
It was a warm and sultry night.
Magically Delicious.
Yippee Ki Yay Mother F…..
Run Rabbit Run
Alpha, Bravo, Charlie … Niner….

And… then there are great and interesting words… like
Gumption
Nefarious
Voracious
Quackish

But back to the start. When you put words together, they can some times form magic.  And that magic can turn into phrases, or poems, stories, speeches, novels… and on.

One of my favorite passages of all time, comes from Mr. Lewis Carroll, when he penned “Through The Looking Glass” in 1872 – “The Walrus and The Carpenter.”

The time has come, the Walrus said,
To talk of many things.
Of shoes and ships and sealing wax
Of cabbages and kings.
Of why the sea is boiling hot
And whether pigs have wings.

Ahhh. But a sad story in the end.  Spoiler Alert.  The Oysters get the short end of the stick.  Literally.

Yes. Our Words are Powerful.  And they can hold great power for anyone. Anyone, at all. As such….we should choose them wisely when we speak and write.  We never know who could be listening.

And if for no one else, we should choose them wisely for ourselves.

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.

Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.
