Market Quest

You see all sorts in this part of the world. Truth be told, you see all sorts, in ALL parts of the world.

Diverse.  That’s what we humans are.

I like to see all sorts, in fact. And vacations are especially good for that.   The local people here are pretty dang nice for the most part. I think some of them really have it hard to come by, though.  You can just tell.

Sometimes I wonder what they think of all the people who just drop down on their island for a week or two at a time.  Most of them depend on tourism for a living.  Besides banking, it is the biggest industry here in the Caymans.  But even still.  I can’t help but to think that on some level, they resent us.  Especially the visitors who don’t offer respect to the native people or their island.

But here we are.  Visiting.

And specifically…. our family… is really glad to be here.  Every day has been truly good, in its own unique way.  Today, the weather was glorious, despite the forecast.

Everyone went up to Rum Point to snorkel and explore.  I sort of missed the boat.  But that was okay.  I had to drive down to Savannah, and pick up some groceries.  It is about a 40 minute drive each way…. depending on traffic.

So, away I went.  I enjoyed the drive down the coastline, until they made me take a detour, and sent me to the inner island.  I got a little turned around, but finally made it the the grocery.   I was so happy with this market.  It was really plentiful, and I went right along and filled up my little cart.

Just before I got in line for the check out, I opened my bag to pull out my billfold.  But here is the thing.  I took my billfold out of my bag earlier in the day.  I don’t like to take money or credit cards down to the beach… which is where I had just come from.

Well.  Guess who had to put back all her groceries.  And guess who had to drive back through the detours, up the coast, back to the East End, to get her money. And then… drive back down to go back to the market and do it all over again.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen.  That would be old Polly Wants A Cracker.  So bad, in fact…. she has to go back to the store to buy a box.

Oh. It was all good.  Truly.  Each time I made the trip, I saw something new, and different, and interesting.  Diverse.

A good day, followed by a great dinner at Tukkas.  It was Fresh-Catch-Friday.  I had Satin Snapper…just off the fishing boat.  I was treating tonight.  So. It was even better when I could actually pay for the meal, by reaching in my bag, and producing my billfold.

As I mentioned earlier, you see all sorts, and it takes all sorts.   Especially me.  Old scatterbrained me.

Yep.  That’s the sort of thing I like.
