Light Ideas

Today, was in fact, St. Patrick’s Day.

I’m not going to write about that, since I am not the least bit Irish, and even if I were, I would still not really give a darn about it. Truthfully, it is just an excuse for a lot of people to get snarky drunk. And that’s okay. But let’s call it what it is. Snarky Drinking Day.

It doesn’t celebrate the Essence of St. Patrick. At least, not in my experience. Our current celebrations most always include green beer, which really is not from Ireland. There is corned beef and cabbage, which is an American dish. You can go to Smithsonian and read all about that misnomer. Yes. It is all bunkered sideways.

If it were really about St. Patrick and the Irish, there would be lots of praying, and time reflecting on God. Meditations and Holy Messages from Above. There would be the story of the Shamrock, and how it represents the Holy Trinity. We would have lots and lots of snakes on St. Patrick’s Day. And then we would take them away. We would have to give a big shout out to Roman Britain, where he was born. And the Leprechauns? To begin with, leprechauns are not jolly, or even friendly. They are not the little dudes that you find on cereal boxes, but mischievous nasty little fellows, mostly intent on protecting their gold. Kind of like our President.

Yeah.

So.

Happy Snarky Drinking Day.

Now here is something of real consequence. On today’s date, in 1905, our boy  Albert Einstein finished his scientific paper detailing his Quantum Theory of Light. It is one of the foundations of modern physics.

Now, now, we are talking.

Happy Quantum Theory of Light Day.

Or, how about this? On this day in 180, Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius died. He was one of the Stoics, and probably one of the greatest philosophers to ever walk on our planet.

Happy Amazing Mark the Stoic Day.

Or, if you really, in all honesty, want something to celebrate on March 17th? Celebrate your life. And the fact that YOU are here, walking on this planet. Yes. We are alive, and figuring out how we are going to make the world better today. We should all treat this as the gift it truly is. Yeah. So. Happy Us Day.
