Lesson Plan

Do you want to play Episode 89?  Do you want to play Episode 89?  Dooooo yooooouuuuuu wwwaaannntttt to plllllaaaaayyyy Eppppisoooode  Eiiiigggghhttty—Nnnniiiiiiiiiinnnne?

Tonight, we turned off the Vice-Presidential Debate, and switched over to Netflix.  As our last played episode of Law & Order  showed up on  the screen, I asked Mary… “Do you want to play Episode 89?”  (Three times, I asked, and… three times….  ) She stared at me blankly.

Sometimes.  When we hear something, we do not understand.  No matter how hard we try to decipher what we are hearing, we just don’t get it.   The words are not clear.

And then finally, someone will say it more slowly, or say it in a different way.   And then…. FINALLY…. we get it.

This happened to me today.  Incredibly.

Someone told me some things about myself, that I really needed to hear.   They spoke to situations, which I had long wondered about.  They touched on details of my life, which really hit home.

I believe we are here, to learn lessons.   Our lives are a long string of lessons to understand.  They start off pretty simply, I think.   But as our lives progress, so do the complexity of those lessons.

It can be a struggle at times.  We may resist.  We may check out, or become completely defiant.  Perhaps we even try to learn, but we fail.  Either by accident or by choice.

But the thing we should remember is to keep trying.

Somehow, we should walk around it.  Have a good look.  See another way, or another path to try.    And take it.  If that isn’t the right course, we should search for another.

The thing today, with me…. was pretty unique… I must admit.  But it showed me some things… some views… that I needed to see.

Now the learning part is up to me.  I’ve been given the lesson plan.  Now I have to do the lab work.  I have to write the essay.  I have to do the math.

And when we finally learn a lesson, we grow.

We grow to be better people, and by doing so… we make the world better too.  And then we start all over again.  Thankfully.

There is nothing impossible to him who will try. — Alexander the Great

I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.  —  J. B. Priestley

Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.  —  Stephen Hawking
