Just a shell of an egg

Sometimes, people fall apart. I’ve seen it happen, before, to a few different people I know. They seem okay to everyone, on the exterior. And then all of a sudden, BLAMMO. They completely lose their ball bearings. Or their marbles. Or both. But the definitely lose their way.

It is kind of like old Humpty Dumpty, up there on the wall. I bet the guy was just sitting up there without a care in the world. Minding his own business. The old Dumpster was probably just swinging his little feet, and looking around. It was a big wall. It was a clear day. I bet he could see for miles and miles.

And then what? We never really found out the true story behind the fall. Just that he had a GREAT one. That makes me wonder, right off the bat. I mean, how “great” can a fall be? Some conspiracists argue that he was pushed. But there is no clear evidence to support those claims. Nope. None.

Nadda.

Who knows really. It could have been a big, strong gust of wind. Or maybe a little Goldfinch flew by, or a Nuthatch, and they were just a little too close to his noggin. It could be that he jumped. Again, it is all speculation at this point. But THE point is, he went flying off of that wall.

Here’s what I am wondering, about this whole deal, now that I have segued to the subject. Where were his friends? Surely he had some other egg-buddies that would have been around? Like, don’t they typically run together in the dozens? Like, little gangs. Was he the hard-boiled type of guy?

And why. WHY in THE heck, did the King’s horses and the King’s men try to fit him back together? I am guessing the King ordered them to do it. But what connection did the King have to Humpty? Were the Royals somehow involved in the plot?

How long did they try to put him back together? Who tried first? The horses or the men? That might have been extremely important. Like, one could have been better at fixing Humpty than the other group. And. Let’s say, by the time the horses got THEIR turn, things were unrecognizable. The men might have really screwed things up.

The horses be all like, “Hey this looks like his elbow. What’s it doing up here where his ear is supposed to be? Is that his ankle come outa’ his nose?”

Yeah.
Yeah.

It all makes me wonder. That whole thing.

Yep.

He fell to pieces.
You know. If that should ever happen to me, the falling apart? I sure do hope I can leave the pieces behind that I don’t want. And keep the rest.

That might, in fact, be a really great fall.
