It was just a dream.

Dreams can really be something, now can’t they?

There are all sorts of dreams.  Like, the group that fall into the aspirations category.  Like Martin Luther King Jr., “I have a dream….”  kind of dreams.  Things we desire or hope for.  I’m not talking about those dreams.

I am talking about the sleeping-head-hits-your-pillow-counting-sheep kinds of dreams.  (And. Since I brought it up….. What is that “counting sheep” thing all about any way? Does any person on the planet really count sheep?)

Back to the topic.

Sleeping state dreams.  I have quite a few.  I think we all do.  Most of the time, I remember at least a portion of them. But, there are also times, when I wake up, and remember then whole thing with great detail and clarity.

But here is the thing with me.  My attitude changes….. between sleep and wake.

Let’s say I’m having a dream,…. and while I am “in it” and dreaming it…. I am thinking, “This is good.”  Or… “This feels like a pleasant experience.”  And then.  I come around to the waking reality and remember what I was dreaming… and I’ll say, “Well.  That dream was plain old creepy.”   Or….”That was kind of terrible.”  Or absurd, or weird, or whatever.   But it felt very real while I was in it.

It is a little strange-ish, I think.

There have been movies made, and books written, about this.  The premise about the reality shift when someone dreams.

We think our waking reality, is our actual reality.  But what if our dreaming reality is the one that is real?  Of course it sound preposterous.  But sometimes when we dream, it seems extremely real. Sometimes to the point when people mistake a dream experience as a real one.

Which brings me to this.  I think people have a wide range of perceptions.  There are different levels of awareness, of cognizance.  Comprehension.  This spans every facet of life.

Some people have a keen awareness of people’s feelings.  Other individuals can sense danger.  Again, this covers everything in life where the grasp of our experiences are concerned.

For instance. Math.  Some people have a keen ability to understand this.  Other people can learn  5 languages without batting an eye.  Certain individuals can repair a car’s engine, just as easy as tying their shoes.  And then there are those who can cook a masterpiece meal without peaking at a recipe.

Along those same lines of thinking, I believe people have different levels of awareness concerning our spiritual lives.  There are those who are extremely compassionate, or philanthropic.  Others are very peaceful.  And yes, I do think there are those who are spiritually conscious.

At the other end of the spectrum, are the very unaware.  The hateful.  The cruel.  The uncaring.  The prejudiced.  For instance…. they might be amazing electrical engineers, but they aren’t wired for kindness.

There is a huge scope of all our human abilities.  And our spiritual abilities too.

Here is one more thing about this.  Perhaps a mediocre tennis player can improve their abilities exponentially by practicing rigorously.

In that same way, I suggest, that we can develop our spiritual levels of awareness.  By good practice.

And by making good practices, in all parts of our lives, we become better people. Who ever that person may be.
