In the mud.

Sometimes it feels a little bit difficult to be human. Life isn’t always easy.  It’s probably a healthy thing to remember that.

We like to be happy.  Most of us, at least.  Albeit, I also see a certain number of people who seem to take refuge in being miserable, and letting everyone know about it.  These folks have a way of wearing you out.

But, for the most part, I think we like untroubled, or finding good feelings in life.  Happy as a Pig in the Mud.

It’s just not that easy sometimes.  I don’t want to imply that it stinks to be human. No way no how. I’d rather be human than anything I think.  Take this morning for instance.   When I let  out two of our dogs, at 5:30 a.m., they quickly cornered a rather large raccoon.  Now… it isn’t much fun for this human, to go out in the chilly willies in my skivvies…. and fend off an angry raccoon, while trying to tackle two very intense dogs.

But in spite of it… I didn’t have it NEARLY as bad as that scared, panicking, cornered raccoon.  How was that thing supposed to know what I was doing with a colander and a Swiffer?

So as you can see, worse for the raccoon, than the girl.

There I go.  Down the road of digression.  But since I’ve already fallen down that slippery slope… let’s consider the Dwarves.  All Seven.

Bashful. Doc. Dopey. Grumpy. Happy. Sleepy. Sneezy.

Which is my point exactly.  As you can see, even in the world of Snow White and the Deep Dark Woods, we all can’t be  Happy all the the time.  Some days we are grumpy and tired and sick.  Other days we think we are smart as Doc.  Unfortunately, I spend far too much of my time being Dopey, I’ll tell you.

But back to the point.  It is okay not to be happy all the time.  We are human.  We are sad. We are afraid, or worried, or tired.  And it is okay.

It is okay to be happy too. Finding little joys in little moments along the way.  It doesn’t have to be in big earth-shattering measures.  Little doses of happy are every bit as good.

So enjoy that belly-laugh with your sweetie, that glorious dip-egg, and an unexpected discovery of that amazing pink rock. But be okay in moments when it all doesn’t seem okay.  It is what we do.  It’s called life.

Humans.  Hard to be. Easy to be.

Be happy with being you. Love your flaws. Own your quirks. And know that you are just as perfect as anyone else, exactly as you are.

Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.
