I have big feet. That might make me Big Foot?

Apparently, the FBI, at one time, had an interest in Bigfoot. Maybe they still do.

There have been legends of a large, ape-like beast, from all over the world. People have been reporting on him, here in the United States since the 1950s. And then, during 1976, the FBI opened a file on him. It has been reported that it is still active.

It all started when a guy named Peter Byrne sent them a message. He was the Director of the Bigfoot Information Center and Exhibition in Oregon. Yep, he sent the FBI “about 15 hairs attached to a tiny piece of skin.” He wrote a nice letter to them too. He and his pals at the Bigfoot Place were not able to identify what kind of animal the hair came from, and were hoping the FBI might analyze it. He also asked the FBI if they had analyzed any Bigfoot hair before. Good old Peter just wanted everyone to get up to speed.

These days, people think the whole “Bigfoot” thing is a joke. But back in the 1960s and 70s, the thought of his existence was wildly popular. Heck, Bigfoot even had a cameo appearance on “The Six Million Dollar Man” one time.

The whole Bigfoot thing started when the big foot prints were found. They, of course, were a part of a prank by a logger, named Ray Wallace. And then there was the famous film of Bigfoot walking through the woods (1967). Many have labeled this as a fake, but there are the Bigfoot Believers who hold this to be true. The Gospel Film.

Back to the FBI. They ran the analysis and sent the results back to Peter Byrne, in Oregon. They found that the samples were the equivalent of deer hair. Of course, Pete said he never got the letter from the FBI. But it is on file for all to see. Regardless, the Bigfoot Researchers like to say that the FBI has a file on Bigfoot. If the FBI is investigating, they say, they must have cause for suspicion. And such.

Here is the thing about us humans. We believe what we want to believe. To believe is to accept a statement as true. It could be anything really. Humans have beliefs that they hold on to without fail.

We might be convinced that North Korea really wants to be friends with the USA. Or, that there might be a big gold throne in the sky, with gold gates and fencing, where good people live when they die. We might believe that a big fish swallowed a guy and then puked him up three days later on some beach. Perhaps we take it as true that dark matter causes time to go forward and overlap. Or that Martha Stewart was framed.

Or maybe we believe that scientists have spent centuries trying to catalog all the different species on this good planet. But. There are recent findings that conclude we have only identified about 15 percent of the 8.7 million species on earth. Yes, apparently 86 percent of the planet’s species are still unknown to us.

So. Who knows.

Bigfoot may be one of them.
