Head… and Shoulder.

Tonight, there is nothing interesting or insightful, I have to say.  I can assure you of that.

I have not been interesting or insightful all day.  In fact, I have been quite the opposite.

Some days, you roll out of bed, and for a very bizarre and unknown reason, there is a monumental chip on  your shoulder.  In your bleary eyed-ness, you glance down to get a good look at the thing.

Geez… that’s one hell of a chip.  How did it get there?  And when did that happen?  Slowly, carefully, you lift your opposite hand and attempt to brush that chip right off your shoulder.

But Uh-Oh.  The dang thing is stuck there.  Hard.  And it is making you grumpier by the minute.  So.  There’s not much left to do, but lift your butt off the mattress.  Heavier than normal.  In fact, that chip is really weighing you down.

The rest of the day is extremely hard to navigate with that thing on your shoulder.  It is causing a limp.  You are really leaning to one side.  Which means the slightest little thing will tip you right over.  And it does.  Repeatedly.  Just like I’m a Little Teapot.

Someone glances at you, and you tip.  They are out of something you need at the grocery store, and you tip.  A car pulls out in front of you, and you tip.  Somebody tells you something you don’t quite want to hear, and you tip.

Pour me out.  Or… is it “Poor Me …..Out…”

Yes.  The Chip.  It is there on your shoulder, as big as you please.   And it is NOT the one “off the old block”… not even close.  No.

This thing came out of nowhere.  Not only is it hanging out with you, annoying you, staying on your every step…. it has also whoopped you upside the head.  So yeah, how do you get rid of a chip such as this one?

Well.  I know one thing for sure…. you shouldn’t cut your shoulder off.

My guess is, this thing will sneak away, just as fast as it appeared.  You can even ask it to leave.

In the meantime, try chocolate.  Pour it right over the thing and have a chocolate chip.  Me?  I’m either going swimming in the ocean… so I can have Fish and Chips.  Or I will plant some spuds.  Potato Chips.

Then we can say… once and for all … Goodbye Mr. Chips.  Goodbye.
