Grown.

I still have a lot of growing to do.  In so many ways.

First, let’s get the obvious out of the way.  Our body’s are in a constant state of rejuvenation.  The cells in our bodies, come and go.  They have a finite life span.  So when those little cells die off….  they are replaced with new cells.

According to several scientific sources….“There are between 50 and 75 trillion cells in the body…. Each type of cell has its own life span, and when a human dies it may take hours or day before all the cells in the body die.”  (NYC Library Desk Reference)

That is how the investigators on Crime Scene Shows… those Forensic Wizards… can determine the cause and time of death of homicide victims.

Our cells…. break down like this.  Red blood cells live for about four months.  White blood cells hang on a little longer.  About a year.   Nakers?  Our birthday suits …. live about two or three weeks.  Shirts and Skins, baby.

We go through colon cells like crazy.  Trust  me.  I am an expert on this one.  They die off after about four days.   And not to be forgotten…  Gentlemen…. your sperm cells have a life span of only about three days.

Our noggins are quite a different story.  Brain cells typically last an entire lifetime. But once we lose them…. they are gone.  The neurons in the cerebral cortex are not replaced when they die.

So… we come and go physically.  Growth.

I think we do the same thing spiritually.  We go backward, and then we progress.  Rejuvenate.  Some people grow more than others, in this way, though.  Some people seem not to give it any thought at all.

I’ll just say this.  We can be on any kind of journey we want to be in this realm. It is completely up to us.  Our path.   Our direction.   Personally, I believe there is much more to humans than the cells which make up our bodies.  I believe each one of us has a spirit inside.  A soul.  The life force.  Our eternal energy.

The spirit, the soul.  That which is capable of knowing the difference between good and bad.  Right and wrong.  Albeit, we all have different measures of these.   But deep inside, we know what feels true and what is false.

We, as humans, are also capable of going in either direction.  Freedom of choice.

Intention.  Purpose.  Action.

Most of us know when we meet someone who’s spirit is bright, and true, and good inside. They just feel “light” —  they exude it.  Conversely, we can tell when a person is sour, or mean.  Their negative energy weighs on us.

But. Unlike our physical cells… we have to make a decision for our spiritual “cells” to grow.

Growth toward the light, I hope.
And.  So each day.   May we choose wisely.
