Grommet your head

I believe in magic. All sorts of magic.

It may not be what you think. By the definition of it, magic is the power of influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.

I like to read that definition a couple of times over it is so wonderfully good.

“Influencing the course of events by using mysterious forces.” There are a lot of mysterious forces in the world. Trust me.

Take the grommet for instance. There is a much to be said for the grommet. You know. Those little eyelets. Most of the time they are a shiny silver color, but they can be made of firm material. Their purpose is to strengthen, or even protect, some sort of an opening. A hole. They insulate and preserve.

Sometimes, in life, we should be grommets. Strengthening the holes. Protecting and insulating that which needs support. Grommet Me. Grommet You. And that, is a perfect example of magic.

Back to the definition. That part about mysterious forces. If we consider the most mysterious force of all, it is right up there in our little noggins. Our minds. They are so incredible and powerful. The capabilities of the human brain seem endless. However, depending on the individual, sometimes those brains appear to teeter on the null and void. But given the chance, they can be more stupendous than an all-out rendition of The Chicken Dance to three well-tuned accordions.

Our minds are only limited by our thoughts. Conversely, our minds can be expanded exponentially by our thoughts. What a thing. Many times though, we let those voices in our heads take over. We all have them. Sometimes they are talking non-stop. They might be chattering about something we said to someone an hour ago. Or worrying about a situation with a loved one. Or bent out of shape about something in the news. They could be having an imaginary conversation about evening the score with someone. The prattle can be constant if we let it.

But one of the great things our minds can do is to pipe down. To cut out the natter. To be quiet. To not think at all.

When we allow ourselves to go to this space of brain-rest, is when we find the greatest magic of all. Our minds connect with the inner peace that only occurs when we calm all the rest of it down.

Often times, we forget this amazing mysterious force is at our beck and call whenever we wish. That, unfortunately, is me on most days.

But today I am going to use a little piece of that peace and quiet. That soft and noiseless space where the masterful mind is waiting. The hole to be buffered and protected.

Yes I do believe in magic. All sorts of magic.
