Flows like a brick

There is a bigger energy at work. I know it.

I believe all of us are Spiritual. Deep inside, we know. There are those moments of serendipitous brilliance, which sometimes push the door open, just a wee little bit, and we can get a glimpse of that resplendence through the crack. And in those instants, we know.

Some of us then really focus our lives on how to open that door wider. So that we can see that “thing” again, and again, and again in our lives. That peace, freedom and harmony. That joyful kindness of life. We encounter the parts that scare us, or feel hard to us, and then we see that there is equanimity on the other side of it. No beginning or end really. Just a flow.

The flow.

That is difficult for me. As much as I’d like to say I have this thing in the bag, it is a constant struggle for me. Part of the thing that “teachers” teach about our spiritual goodness, is “going with the flow.” That phrase has been assigned some negative connotations and suggestions. Some people think it means that being lazy, or passive, or just sitting around and hoping for the best. But that isn’t it at all.

Going with the flow means being aware, and seeing the bigger picture. It means having the ability to blend our own energy with the prevailing energy. The analogy of being in a river and going with the current, rather than against it.

It doesn’t mean that we don’t know where we are going. Instead, it means that we are open to the idea that there may be more than one way to get there.

More than one way to get there.
Yes. More than one way to get there.

This takes a big, well-tuned, fine Spiritual-Machine-of-a-Person to understand this fully. Sometimes it takes trust, or patience, or complete openness of the heart to “go with the flow.”

As I said, sometimes, I am not so good at this. I am a creature of habit, and I treasure my routine life. I like order and predictability. I am a an Obsessive-Compulsive Taurus. That HAS to be the ultimate definition of “rigid.” Sometimes, going with the flow is not in my bag of immediate tricks. But I am learning. I keep trying.

I just need to remember that there are bigger forces in control of this world, this time, this place, this life. Much bigger.

We may have our little “say-so’s” here and there, but ultimately, we don’t have control of the very big switch. The thing that can flip, at any given minute. So for that, our lives are better, when we can look for that crack in the door, where the light shines through.

And bask, as we go with that flow.
