Drink a mushroom and save yourself.

The health craze. They happen, it seems, as often as Vanna White flips a letter. There always seem to be some extremes where they are concerned.

They come in all shapes and sizes, and we have seen our fair share over the years. Sometimes, they come along with some obscure study of 125 people, under sketchy lab coat conditions.

We took vitamins for years. For years, and years. And now, they have found that they are not beneficial at all. In fact, giving vitamins to little kids can be harmful. Or so they say.

There are Atkins Diets. Banana Cleanses. Gluten-Free. Apple Cider Cures. Southbeach and Scarsdale. Keto. Today, we have the CBD Craze. And just this evening, I read about the new Mushroom Coffee Trend.

The Mushroom Coffee thing is grabbing hold in the bigger cities. The article reported: “According to a Pinterest study released at the start of 2019, superfood powders have had a 144% year-over-year spike in searches, and interest in nutrient-packed mushrooms, in particular, is up 46%.”

A Pinterest Study? Did someone say a Pinterest Study? Exactly how does that work?

Anyway.

Folks are making Mushroom Coffee like crazy. The report goes on to say that the global medicinal mushroom market will exceed $50 billion by 2022. That’s a big pile of mushrooms, I’ll tell you. They say the increase is a result of the food’s association with healthy eating. And apparently, it is an “emerging food trend that 1 in 4 adults want to try to manage their wellness.”

Here, in Preble County, if you would order a cup of Mushroom Coffee somewhere, you’d get laughed right off your lunch-counter-stool. I probably won’t be the 1 in 4 people interested. I love mushrooms, but typically, I prefer them on my pizza or in some good stir fry.

And the whole coffee thing. Personally, I don’t like to mix anything with my coffee. I like it right from the pot, to the cup, to my mouth. In fact, if there has ever been a health trend that has proven true over the decades, it is a good old cup of black coffee.

No matter how bad you might feel on any given morning, a black cup of coffee, will always make you feel a little bit better.

I’m not saying these crazes and trends are good or bad, but they come, go, and eventually, fade away.

Moderation, in anything, is probably the best way to go.
That avoidance of excess or extremes.

Which often times, is easier said, than done.
