Do, do, do, as you must.

I had my yearly Mammogram today. And my Bone Density Test. During the standard “health history” questions, the technician asked if I’d recently had any organ replacements. I said “No. But I did buy a new piano.” She looked at me with wide, blank, blinking eyes. And then it was on to the next question. I stuck to the standard answers from there on out.

In the waiting room, while we are all sitting around in our pink robes, waiting for the big squeeze, one of the women started going on and on, out loud, and to no one in particular. She said, “It smells like cake in here. Strawberry cake. Wow it smells like cake. Doesn’t it smell like strawberry cake in here?” No one offered any feedback, but a few of us shook our heads. And went back to our games on our iPhones. Perhaps enough of us were playing “Candy Crush” and there was some sort of digital reverberation happening in the olfactory department. She was adamant.

On my drive home, I saw a semi-truck with a large sticker on the back doors. It said, “Jesus is the way.” The guy was speeding. I’m not sure what this means, but I never took Jesus for a sprinter. But. I wonder if Jesus was a jogger? Did the people exercise back in the BC turned to AD? Cross fit training? Moving to the Oldies? Pontius Pilate Pilates?

When I was a kid, I thought Pontius Pilate flew planes. I drew pictures of him in airplanes, flying over Jesus on the cross. Of course, back then, Leonardo da Vinci would not draw the first helicopter for another 1500 years. Pilots came after that.

I stopped at Walmart on the way home to pick up a few items. When I walked in the entrance, and saw the coin-op rides, I had the insatiable urge to ride them. I stood in front of the Bob the Builder ride for at least 30 seconds, trying to make up my mind. I thought better of it. Mostly because I didn’t have any quarters with me.

Back home, coming up the lane, I saw three rabbits. Frolicking. Bunny hopping. Whisker rubbing. Cottontails flopping up and down. I smiled and waved. I think somehow, they waved back.

And at my desk. Checking my email, I learned that Boring, Oregon and Dull, Scotland have been sister cities since 2012. In 2017, they added Bland Shire, Australia to their “League of Extraordinary Communities.”

My day was anything but.
