Calling all angels…

I wasn’t going to write tonight, but then I felt suddenly compelled.

To talk about angels.

I believe in angels. Why shouldn’t I? I think they are all around us, whether we realize this, or not. They have been with me since the day I was born. I’m fairly certain of this.

I’ve had a few rough spots in my life. Being in places where I probably should not have been. But there I was. Somehow, in those moments…. in that time. Well. I feel like I had some sort of help getting through.

I’m not the first person to believe in them, as you very well know.

They have quite a long history, but it can be somewhat complicated to figure out. There are angels, or similar spirit beings, which are found in many cultures all the way around this big rotating globe of ours.

Angels are found within three key religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

They are known by many different names too. Angels, or divine helpers, are also found within Sumerian, Babylonian, Persian, Egyptian and Greek writings. But…. that’s all Greek to me.

But hey. We are talking like way, way back. The book of Genesis was probably written around the 6th century BC. It is well known that ancient Sumerian texts were scribed many moons before the Hebrew book of Genesis. And yes, those Sumerian texts include the idea of the existence of angels. (27th Century BC)

At any rate, I think many people believe in them. But, in a far off sort of way.  I think they are right around us. And really, all we have to do is stand very still, and listen.

But for those who do not believe in angels. I say this. There is so much that goes on in our world — the hatred, the crime, the atrocities, and the injustices. We hear it the news, we see it on the TV. We spend of lot of time and energy talking about it, and watching it, and not seeing any clear solutions. We shake our heads and say, “Unbelievable.” But there it is, in this physical world, and we cannot understand how such a thing could happen. Sometimes it feels heavy, and hard, and inconsolable.

So I wonder what would happen if we started to focus on the goodness right here in our midst. The thing that so many of us deem as truly unbelievable. The things we can’t see, or hear, or touch. But there it is. Right before us. The wonder, the power of love, the bright light of those around us. The ones who carry it. All we have to do, is to believe, and listen. If we started putting more of our mind’s time…. into the light of goodness. If we shifted our focus…. we would start to know.

To the angels among us.
