Bright side of bad

The beginning of March. Spring can’t be far behind. In fact, it is supposed to make its entrance on the 20th of this month. Oh. But not without a fight I am sure. The weather mongers here in Ohio have been calling for a big snow storm again this weekend. And maybe another on the following weekend.

More snow. More wintery mix.

I am sure this will cause a lot of people to grumble. Personally, I could do without another snow storm. But it comes our way, whether we like it or not.

The smart people, the ones who advise us on the way of the Psyche, and the way of the Spirit, tell us that it is important to keep a positive outlook. One of gratitude and grace. I agree with them.

I truly believe that our perceptions shape the world around us. Our notions and ideas put a colored filter on the lives we lead. I think energy works that way. Because the moment we blink in a certain direction, the universe shifts and adjusts itself to our expectations.

When we all our eyes can see is negativity, we are most certain to get another great big dose of it. On the other side of the coin. If we focus on creating positive energy, we are apt to see goodness. Happiness. Contentment.

My intentions are most always good, but I can tell you, I frequently slip and fall on that slippery slope. It becomes very easy to criticize situations that frustrate us. Or that upset us, or even hurt us. Not to mention any of the people involved.

I know when this happens, I am not doing myself any favors by getting bent out of shape. We do ourselves a disservice when we get caught in the tangle. If I could just shake myself silly, and see, that somewhere in the mess of that “thing” — whatever it may be — it is important to see the good. We should try to find the blessings that may be tucked away in every aspect of our outer-world reality.

Yesterday, when I listened to the talking heads of weather, when I heard them say a “potential” for 8 inches of snow, or ice, or Armageddon, I knew I was getting wound up inside. Cursing this storm for dumping on us. Again. the gray, the cold, the hard to drive-in, walk-in snow. They’ve now adjusted the forecast to 4 inches. Nonetheless. There is a good part in this. Surely. A blessing. We will see the Spring come eventually. And with it, we will have a greater appreciation for all things new, and green, and blooming.

Lewis Carroll once said this. “Everything’s got a moral, if only you can find it.”

They call this month March. Not saunter, not shuffle, not walk. They call it March. So, that’s what I plan to do. March. All the way until April.
