A laughing matter… oh deer.

Cartoons.  Comics.  Animated Movies.  Growing up, I sure did love  all those things.  Oh wait.  I guess as an adult, I still love all those things.  I’m always drawing and doodling, and of course, subjecting you to my various conjured characters.

I was captivated by the big bunch of it as a kid.  It seemed like magic to me.  An entire and completely wonderful, magical world.  Where rabbits, and ducks, could talk.  Where mice, stood on the noses of bulldogs,  and chatted about how to “do in” the cat.

It was a place where cute little dwarves would sing, and hippos could dance.  In tutus.  It was fascinating.

But some of those old cartoons, seem now…. to hold some truth.

The one I am thinking of in particular was a bit of an ongoing theme.  It was the deal where the “character”… be it Bugs Bunny, or Scooby Doo, or Wyle E. Coyote…  would climb and climb and climb and climb… to the top of that mountain.  And there at the very apex, would sit a little guru man, in a white gown, with a little white beard.

And the character would ask the little Buddha man the BIG question, whatever it was.  Like… “What is the meaning of life?”   The the little dude would say something like… “Pimento Cheese.”  Or…. “Eat At Joe’s.”… or some crap like that.

Oh, I would get so mad at the TV set.  I would say… out loud… “Holy Strappy Sandals Batman!  I don’t get it.  What kind of an answer is THAT?”

Well, here is the deal.  NOW.  I get it.

The true meaning of life… the big secret… is Pimento Cheese.  Or Deer Eating Corn.  Or Tattered Book Bindings.

Everyone has a different take on it.  Each one of us.  Or no take at all.  Some people have great faith in a god, with scales of good and bad. Others seem to think we are in a chaotic whirlwind.  Still others think we are on a ride through a perfectly ordered time sequence.

And how do we know what…. or who…. is right.

I can only say this for sure.  Everyone has a perspective on it.

François Rabelais said… “I go to seek a Great Perhaps.”

But Edgar Allan Poe observed… “The best things in life make you sweaty.”

And then you have Mr. Kurt Vonnegut.  He noted…  “In the beginning, God created the earth, and he looked upon it in His cosmic loneliness.

And God said, “Let Us make living creatures out of mud, so the mud can see what We have done.” And God created every living creature that now moveth, and one was man. Mud as man alone could speak. God leaned close to mud as man sat up, looked around, and spoke. Man blinked. “What is the purpose of all this?” he asked politely.

“Everything must have a purpose?” asked God.

“Certainly,” said man.

“Then I leave it to you to think of one for all this,” said God.

And He went away.”

We will never know for sure, is what I think.  But I seem to line up with the observations of Anais Nin.
“There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, for each person.”
