All Wrong for Rights

Okay.  The truth of the matter is this.  I am not so good at the whole political game.  I just don’t seem to be able to get things quite right.  I’m too dang emotional for one thing.  It muddles me.

I’ve always been involved and I have voted since I was old enough to register.  I think it is my privilege and duty as an American Citizen.  As such, I try to stay informed.

It is my feeling that we should have 100% voter turnout.  Every election.  From the local-smokel to the big-el-presidentia.   Okay, maybe 95% for sick days. But our involvement should be way up there.

At any rate, with voting comes responsibility.  Studying the viable candidates and understanding the issues:  This is not always an easy task.  In fact, most of the time it can be downright challenging.

It doesn’t matter.  We should do this.  Our right, our privilege, our honor.

But I get all wrapped up in it.  Emotional, as I mentioned before.  Other times, I just fall to the side of ….   … well…. awkward.

Like take this last march.  I took part, to show my support for Human Equality.  But one of the things we were supposed to wear were the Cat Hats.  At least, that is how I remembered it.  “Don’t forget to wear your Cat Hat in support of the Fair Treatment of Women”

And yes….. I, like Mary Tyler Moore…. and so many others….  am all for the fair treatment of women.  So I showed up with my cool hat.  Which took quite some doing, I’ll tell you.  But as it turns out…  I was the only one.  A lot of people were wearing Pink Homemade Knitted Hats… which were really cute.  But I was the ONLY ONE THERE with the Cat Hat.

Polly in the Cat Hat.

Like I said.  Awkward.  It really doesn’t stop at politics.  I get a lot of thing wrong. I duck when I should have dodged.  Or laugh at parts of movies when no one else is laughing.   I thought Periwinkle Blue was Bullwinkle’s cousin.  I used to think Fish Sticks were Fish Dicks….. and that Quarter till 8 meant we had 25 minutes to go until 8 o’clock.

I’m just built that way.  Like a Polly in the Cat Hat.
I guess it could be worse. Truly.
So….  most of all, I guess I am simply thankful to be me.

The cat, however, was not as thankful… AND not as happy to know me.
